Top management revamp at Star Media Group

The Star Media Group has made a series of appointments to its top management.According to group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, the changes made are part of the company's ongoing exercise to strengthen itself in a more demanding and challenging environment.The company has appointed Calvin Kan (pictured) as group chief operating officer (COO), June HL Wong as chief operating officer, content development while Leanne Goh has taken over Wong’s former position as group chief editor.Prior to this appointment, Kan, who first joined The Star as senior advertisement executive in 1989, was holding the position of chief executive officer of The Star Radio Group.Kan’s various past managerial posts in the advertising industry includes general manager, senior advertisement manager and senior manager, advertising and business promotions.On top of that, he was also executive vice president, print business, in 2013 and group business director with an additional role of COO, print, in 2011 where he oversaw the daily operations of the print business, a core revenue generating component for the group. Kan will continue to lead the operations of The Star Radio Group comprising Red FM, Suria FM, 988 and Capital Radio.Wong, who was promoted to group chief editor last year, has been given a wider portfolio as the company steps up its digital and television plans, according to a release from the company. She will be tasked to assist group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai. She will also assist Wong to carry out the media group’s convergence plans to bring together its various platforms.Goh was previously reporter, senior writer, then chief reporter and editor. She has also worked at the news, education and Sunday Star desks. As the executive editor and Sunday Star editor, she was overseeing the main paper on Sunday, Sunday Metro and Star Education.All three appointments will take effect immediately.
