Spotify's Sunita Kaur joins Twitch as first APAC MD

Sunita Kaur (pictured), Spotify's VP, revenue of APAC, has joined Twitch as its first APAC MD. Based in Singapore, she will focus on supporting the growth of the Twitch community to benefit content creators, media partners, agencies, advertisers, publishers, and developers in Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.

She was previously with Spotify for more than six years, first joining as MD of Southeast Asia. Before that, she worked at Facebook as director of Asia for more than two years, according to her LinkedIn, and was also the associate director - Singapore and international accounts at Microsoft Advertising. Kaur also helmed senior roles at Forbes, Singapore Press Holdings and Time Inc Asia.

According to a previous job ad on LinkedIn, the APAC MD will lead business development and marketing efforts across APAC, ensuring that global product roll outs and marketing strategies are localised appropriately across the region. The MD will also be tasked to support Twitch’s chief revenue officer, Walker Jacobs, and advertising sales efforts by assisting in executing local sales activities and fostering relationships with advertising agencies and key brand partners.

Kaur said Twitch is proof that entertainment and media consumption habits around the world, including in APAC, have foundationally changed.

“Young consumers in APAC are cutting the cord and are influenced by social media where the audience expects to play a part in entertainment they watch. This means the unique Twitch entertainment experience, one that fosters collaboration and community between content creator and audience, can support this consumer-led revolution of how content is delivered," she added.

COO of Twitch, Sara Clemens, said Asia is a burgeoning region for user-generated live content and gaming, and it is excited to deepen our investments with Kaur’s hire. Clemens added that Kaur's 20 years of experience in digital advertising and online services and communities that serve content creators in APAC make her the perfect leader for Twitch’s business in the region.
