Shopee, a mobile marketplace has tied up with national courier service, Pos Laju, to make Shopee University available throughout Malaysia.
In a statement to A+M, Shopee’s spokesman said this first-ever Shopee University collaboration is intended to empower even more Malaysians to kick-start their mobile commerce journey and helping more to realise their entrepreneurial potential.
Mobile marketplace, Shopee said, has seen massive growth over the past year, with more than 20 million downloads across the region, and Malaysia’s user base more than doubling since June this year.
“There is a significant growth in the usage of our app. We believe that it is not just a trend in mCommerce, but also signals the desire of Malaysians to use mobile commerce as a means to generate income. The partnership with Pos Laju to make Shopee University available to the entire nation will help more entrepreneurs prepare for the wave of mobile-first businesses that will sweep the region,” Ian Ho, regional managing director of Shopee said.
“We will prepare as many sellers as possible for what will be the biggest mobile commerce event happening this September. As a mobile-first social marketplace, Shopee is set to continue its upward trajectory with the region’s first ever mobile shopping day on 9th September,” he added.
Meanwhile, Shopee University is a series of in-depth tutorial modules crafted by Shopee to aid local entrepreneurs in setting up their online business in an increasingly mobile-centric environment. During these sessions, m-commerce experts are expected to impart skills and tips relevant to both beginners and experienced online sellers. It covers topics from how to leverage mobile to increase sales, to in-depth skills such as optimizing online marketing spend and product photography classes.
The partnership comes after Shopee said it garnered enthusiastic responses from participants across 31 classes in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru.
“Moving Shopee University across the nation through our outlets reiterate our endeavours to help local entrepreneurs especially in e-commerce, to take their businesses to another level. We are always coming up with new and better delivery, end-to-end fulfilment and logistics solutions to help the industry grow,” said Dato’ Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh, Pos Malaysia’s group chief executive officer.
