ShopBack bags former Zalora MD as chief commercial officer

ShopBack has appointed Candice Ong (pictured) as its chief commercial officer. Prior to the appointment, Ong was managing director of Zalora Southeast Asia, a role she held for four years. According to the company, she brings more than 10 years of global experience in ecommerce, marketing and finance to the two-and-a-half year old start-up.In her new role, she will be tasked with leading country teams across the region, as well as helming regional marketing to accelerate ShopBack’s growing presence. She will also play a critical role within the core business management team.As former MD of Zalora SEA, Ong was said to be instrumental in the fashion site’s rapid growth, spanning roles in marketing and procurement. She was responsible for establishing regional marketing teams which won numerous awards in customer loyalty and engagement.Before joining Zalora, Ong held positions in the investment banking industry in Barclays Capital in New York and Credit Suisse in SEA. She was also involved in high profile special projects such as the region’s 12-12 ecommerce sale event, collaboration efforts for “How Do I look Asia” with NBC and a collaboration in Malaysia with cult brand - Sometime - By Asian Designers.“As ShopBack continues to expand quickly across the region, we’ve been looking to work with a senior executive who has both functional experiences regionally and strong leadership to help us scale further. I’ve personally been in the same team as Candice on numerous projects in the past, and I believe she is the right catalyst to take us higher,” Henry Chan, CEO and co-founder of ShopBack, said.
