HOW a sensual vibrating egg became a name

What does it take to name a great creative agency these days? The old ways of doing it typically included pulling together the senior partners and pasting their names together in a way that was not overly awkward.Think DDB, from ad legends Doyle, Dane and Bernbach, or BBDO, originally from partners Batten, Barton, Durstine & Osborn. But agencies today take a very different approach.Take independent creative agency Vibegg (震蛋) as an example.Established three years ago by former McCann Hong Kong creative director Cho Au Yeung, Vibegg, Vibegg is literally an animated version of the renowned Manneken Pis; only this one is equipped with a sensual vibrator. The sense of awkwardness conveyed in its image is actually far more than just an exercise in hilarity."We try to tell people who we are in our logo," said Au Yeung, which he describes as entertainment, fun and innovation."This logo is a sign to reflect our aim to let clients feel like experiencing an orgasm while working with us.”Maybe it is this adventurous streak which has earned him a nine-year long creative relationship with the likes of Kee Wah Bakery. But Yeung stressed what’s more important is to maintain an entertaining approach."What differentiates our firm is the use of entertainment and emotional gratification in our work,” he said.“We are not making advertising; instead, we are creating entertainment for audiences."[gallery link="file" ids="39401,39402,39399,39400"]The local firm has consolidated its hold in the market with two main retainers including Kee Wah Bakery and Wilson, on top of a slew of top tier clients such as Sun Hung Kai, Nike, Coca-Cola, Ocean Park and Pizza Hut.“My clients can find our audacious approach embarrassing, but then I tell them, it's time to think outside the box and to embrace something new.”Photo courtesy to Vibegg.com
