Petron encourages cashless payments at 200 service stations with WeChat tie-up

Petron Malaysia has collaborated with WeChat Pay Malaysia, to allow motorists to pay using the WeChat Pay Malaysia e-wallet at approximately 200 Petron service stations.

The initiative is part of WeChat Pay Malaysia and Petron Malaysia’s commitment to enhance customer experience by providing ease of transactions at stations. Revenue Monster, the company that collaborated Petron and WeChat Pay Malaysia, offers products and solutions, such as a remote terminal management system for centralised business operations and customisable food-ordering management services. This comes together with an integrated management portal that allows merchants to manage their own Facebook Messenger and WeChat social broadcasts to publish promotions and manage customer loyalty programmes.

According to WeChat Pay Malaysia chief executive officer Jason Siew, the collaboration with Petron looks to “encourage” growth of cashless payments in Malaysia. He said that this is in line with the company’s strategy of moving towards a cashless society whilst leveraging on the rise of e-commerce and the efficiency of Malaysia’s payment systems.

“We will continue to strategically expand our collaboration for WeChat Pay to provide greater flexibility, access and choice for customers while enabling an easy and safe payment experience,” he added.

“We are confident that customers will enjoy this new safe, easy, and convenient e-wallet shopping experience. Customers’ convenience has always been our priority and the partnership with WeChat Pay Malaysia allows us to offer secure and wider payment choices for our valued customers,” Petron head of retail business Choong Kum Choy said.

“We hope that more consumers will have the opportunity to experience Petron’s Fuel Happy hospitality, while gaining more satisfying rewards using Petron fuels and from the services we have introduced. This is in line with our commitment to provide consumers more benefits and rewards,” he added.

Most recently, Petron launched a campaign to spread awareness over its Go To Safety Point (GTSP) initiative which looks to guard against crime. This is by allowing consumers who are victims of crime to regard the Petron’s stations as a “safe zone”, according to The Star.

To raise awareness, the initiative will place art installations at Petron’s petrol stations. Petron retail business head, Faridah Ali, explained that the installation arts are to let the public know that GTSP is available at all Petron stations. However, only 10 stations contain the art installations.
