PayPal appoints new GM amid renewed HK focus

PayPal has appointed Soon Sze Meng (孫世珉) as the new senior director and general manager for Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan.

In his new role, Soon will be tasked with strengthening the digital payment platform’s cross-border business and expanding market share in the domestic market.

In his previous leadership roles, Soon has led teams to achieve high profile commercial and marketing partnerships with merchants and banks in China, South East Asia, India and Russia. He has also taken on Asia-Pacific roles in cross-border marketing and strategy.

On the competitiveness of the Hong Kong digital payments market, he says, “I look forward to engaging with local Hong Kong businesses to help them navigate through the fast-changing payment innovations so that they can tap on the consumer growth opportunity.”

Patrick Foo, vice president and general manager for China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea said, “Hong Kong is a key market for PayPal and it is important for us to add senior leadership to the team here in order to support its growth.
