Ogilvy Malaysia names Dane Barr director of PR and influence team

Ogilvy Malaysia has appointed Dane Barr (pictured) as director of the agency's PR and Influence team. He will work alongside Sunita Kanapathy, who now heads the PR and Influence team within a restructured Ogilvy Malaysia.The appointment comes as the agency continues its transformative shift towards integrated communications, and bolsters its efforts to become an adaptive, agile and future-focused agency. In his new role, Barr will execute comprehensive communications strategies and be responsible for duties that cut across the entire agency, involving the creative and social teams.Barr was previously group account director at Geometry Global and has worked on a variety of brands from industries such as FMCG, banking, education, luxury goods and alcohol, among others, during the past five years. He was formerly a practicising barrister at the Inn of Court of Northern Ireland.“Great stories happen to those who can tell them, and Barr will elevate words into action through the power of influence. We welcome him to the team where he will deliver the agency’s commitment within key accounts while working with Kanapathy to strengthen our offerings in PR and Influence," Ogilvy CEO David Mayo said.Recently, news broke that its deputy ECD Donevan Chew will be leaving the agency at the end of June 2018 to take on the role of ECD at BBDO. He will be replacing VJ Anand who left the agency earlier this year for Go-Jek, and will be reporting to GM Farrah Harith-McPherson. It also parted ways with former chief creative officer Gavin Simpson last month.Meanwhile, the agency was also picked to manage PR and influence duties for Canon Marketing Malaysia for a period of one year, across its corporate, consumer and business divisions. This includes all products from cameras and printers to multifunctional devices and professional printing solutions.
