Google's annual Zeitgeist has revealed Malaysia's top five searches for 2012 which are Ministry of Education's School Examination Analysis System (SAPS), Gangnam Style, Proton Prevé, 9Gag and Zalora."The year-end Zeitgeist is a cultural barometer that gives us a real snapshot of the big events, memorable moments and growing terms in Malaysia for 2012," said Google spokesperson Zeffri Yusof.The search was measured based on Google Trends, a public tool that displays relative search volume across geographies, time periods and queries, and also internal tools.There are several categories of searches. One of them is the ‘What Is' category. Malaysians looked up on online piracy (SOPA), why ‘You only live once' (YOLO), Lynas, Instagram, love and also what ‘the Internet' is.In the category about people, Whitney Houston's death led her to become the most searched person, ahead of basketball star Jeremy Lin. Locally, singer Shila Amzah made into the list.As for top images searches, Malaysians looked up for images of the Sun and clouds. Legoland hailed as the most search for popular holiday spots, topping off Sunway Lagoon, Langkawi and Cameron Highlands.Malaysians did not just search for international football leagues such as the Premier League and Spanish La Liga, there was also a special spot for Malaysia Super League winner Kelantan in the top 10.Mobile searches (people) is a new category for this year. Malaysians were most fascinated with celebrity preacher Ustaz Azhar Idrus, followed by Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Paul Tan's car news blog and updates on political figure Anwar Ibrahim.
