Major newscasters have been stepping up their Asian coverage over the last year, with the most recent being Bloomberg Television launching its ‘ASEAN Report’, exclusively sponsored by CIMB Group.
‘ASEAN Report’ is a news segment aimed at capturing trends and developments across Southeast Asia’s financial, economic and political landscape.
The segment debuts tomorrow and features top ASEAN trend stories and interviews with newsmakers such as Jose Camacho, managing director and vice chairman of Credit Suisse Asia Pacific and former secretary of finance in the Philippines, and Charamporn Jotikasthira, president of the stock exchange of Thailand.
Parry Ravindranathan, head of Bloomberg Television for Asia-Pacific said: “The series will cast a spotlight on market-moving business and economic trends and opportunities in ASEAN’s high-growth economies.”
The addition comes hot on the heels of local broadcast house Channel NewsAsia announcing its expansion with a new look and programme line up.
In March 2013, the Channel NewsAsia will taking its discussion programme, “Perspectives”, on the road in Jakarta which will feature the countries various heavy weights such as Emirsyah Satar, President and CEO of Garuda Indonesia, Stefan Koeberle, the World Bank’s country director for Indonesia and others.
Last year, BBC too turned its focus to Asia and launched three of its pay TV channels in Burma – BBC World News, BBC Entertainment and CBeebies.
The launch of ‘ASEAN Report’ reinforces Bloomberg Television’s investment in ASEAN with the recent partnership with Idea Group to launch BTV Indonesia, its new broadcast studio in Singapore, and having new local content driven from the region.
“With greater collaboration and consultation across the 10 ASEAN markets to create a 600 million-strong region that is growing in global influence, Bloomberg TV believes the time is right for a dedicated ASEAN series,” Ravindranathan concluded.
