Netflix available on IPTV set-top boxes for LG U+'s customers

Netflix joins hands with LG U+ to offer access to the Netflix service on IPTV set-top box U+tv starting from 16 November.Under the new partnership, U+tv consumers will be able to access the service with a push of the Netflix button on their LG U+ remote control. Consumers subscribing to Netflix can navigate the Netflix service with its library of original programming and licensed titles including dramas, films and documentaries. The current users of U+tv set-top box will have their set-top box automatically upgraded to enjoy Netflix, and the consumers can pay Netflix subscriptions through their LG U+ bill.Tony Zameczkowski, VP, business development, Netflix Asia, said “Netflix is guided by the singular focus to give consumers choice and control over the entertainment they love. And, in pursuing that goal, we’ve built a global service that help our members discover stories they love and these stories come from everywhere in the world. Through this partnership with LG U+, we are making it even easier for (South) Korean consumers to access these great stories, delivered over LG U+’s IPTV screens in the highest quality, in the most engaging way.”Since May this year, LG U+ is offering the three month Netflix subscription promotion for those signing up for unlimited high-speed mobile plan. LG U+ is going to expand the promotion to U+tv subscribers, in celebration of the IPTV Netflix service launch. With the promotion, those who sign up for VOD premium plan and U+ broadband by December 31 can enjoy Netflix content as much as they want for three months. LG U+plans to introduce Netflix to 1.05 million UHD2 STB users first, and expand the service to a wider member base afterwards.“Today’s announcement is a meaningful one as we expand the freedom of content choice for U+tv members amid the global trend of telcos introducing Netflix’s distinctive content to their consumers,” said Song Gu-young, VP of home media division of LG U+.
