Maybank and Groupon Malaysia ink deal

Malaysia’s largest online banking platform has partnered with Groupon Malaysia offering users a 10% off on Groupon prices and special preview access for its items and services.

Maybank’s head of virtual banking, Abdul Razak Mohd Nordin was quoted in local media reports saying the bank anticipated between 300,000 and 500,000 customers to come on board through the tie-up, representing a 20% increase.

He also added that the partnership is as indication that Maybank is expanding its e-channel offerings leveraging on the rise of platforms such as Groupon.

The deal helps extend Groupon’s reach to another 1.74 million active user’s. Since its inception in January this year, Groupon’s customer base has reached to 700,00 as of July 2011.

Both Groupon and Maybank could not be contacted for comments at press time.
