Marriott Hotels gets on Apple Watch

Marriott International has expanded its digital travel services through its mobile app partnership with Apple Watch.Members of the Marriott Rewards programme who have purchased the Apple Watch will now be able to access Marriott’s mobile app for check-in and checkout. They will also receive an automatic receipt of room ready alerts, booking and review of reservations and detailed directions to the hotel.George Corbin, senior vice president, Marriott Digital, said this is part of Marriott’s aggressive efforts to create a complete mobile-powered travel experience. He added that putting the brand's mobile services on the hottest new wearable is an important step in putting the guest in total control.These initiatives come as the hotel chain sees a 50% increase in guest using their mobile to visit Marriott.com. Corbin added that offering innovative mobile and digital solutions is central to Marriott’s commitment to helping its guests maximise all aspects of their travel experience."The future of mobile and digital technology is unlimited and plays an important role as travel becomes more open and accessible across the globe. Marriott will continue to collaborate with the best technology companies to create a world class guest experience that is enriching, easy and fun," he said.The hotel chain is also one of the the first in the hospitality business to offer mobile check-in and checkout across its full portfolio of hotels. It is also the first hospitality company to accept Apple Pay at its signature brands such as The Ritz-Carlton, EDITION, Renaissance Hotels and Marriott Hotels.Marriott Hotels, the company’s flagship brand, is currently also testing new mobile services that will enable guests to review their rooms in real time and make service requests before and during their stay. The hotel is also in the midst of piloting keyless entry at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel. Later this year, it plans to start testing a new “Connect My Device” in-room entertainment platform.
