Yahoo has released its latest web series entitled Cybergeddon, starring Malaysian born Sarah Lian (pictured), playing the character Blue.Produced by CSI creator, Anthony E Zuiker, Cybergeddon is one of Yahoo's many branded content projects and comprises nine episodes. The series debuted on 25 September in over 25 countries and in 10 languages.Based on the growing threat of cybercrime, the series was created with the advice of online security expert Norton by Symantec, who lent their technical insights to the production team.Norton's products also appears in the series, according to Jon Tjin Kee, Yahoo Malaysia country sales director.Lian, who plays a hacker in the series, said Cybergeddon is a way to start a dialogue about what is happening around us in the world of cyber-crime, cyber-terrorism and much more.A microsite was created by Yahoo just for the web series, engaging audiences through a social media and gaming experiences using Yahoo's Custom Brand Experience (CBE) element.CBEs are a common element that Yahoo created two years ago for several other local brand campaigns as well. One popular one was Vaseline's ‘Amazing You' campaign, reaching out to women."Vaseline as a brand has multiple products, but the perception of what Vaseline had was only petroleum jelly. The CBE was targeted at women, and when women came in to view the brand experience, they were shown different types of content," added Jon.Yahoo created informational content highlighting ‘the five myths of the sun' and other different topics on skin-care, done for six months with users shown different types of content, not playing too much on selling the brand.Similar experiences were done with Dove, Rexona, GSK's Eno, a customised Ramadhan site and Christmas site in the past."We partner with Facebook with our social bar in Yahoo sites and a lot of traffic comes from there. It tells you what your friend has read on Yahoo! today, they become your curator or editor of content," explains Jon.
