Tis’ the season to be jolly? Well not really if you’ve got a whole bunch of unwanted gifts laying around.
This festive season, mobile-based marketplace Shoppe launched a #GetGreedy with Shopee campaign that spurs individuals to sell their ‘unwanted’ gifts they received on Christmas Day on Shopee and buy what they really want.
While not very “Christmas-y” in spirit, the campaign sure does aim to cut through the clutter.
“Although Christmas is the season of giving, people do not always receive gifts that hit the mark…With every unwanted gift received, there is likely a ‘gift face’ or an expression of feigned delight behind it,” said the company in a statement to Marketing.
To aid these individuals in getting their frustrations out, the platform wanted to encourage folks to share their worst gift confessions with Shopee on its official Facebook page. The quirkiest and most interesting captions would then stand a chance to win Shopee vouchers.
All gift confessions will be kept anonymous unless participants wish to tag themselves. The community will get to decide on the top three winning entries as they cast their votes online. The most interesting listings will then get to be featured in the special in-app #GetGreedy collection of products handpicked by Shopee, which will be made available for the community to browse and shop.
Shopee also launched a video to go hand-in-hand with the campaign. While, not Oscar award worthy in the acting department, the spot sure does get the point across.

Taking the campaign offline, Shopee also encouraged people to share their unwanted gift confessions this post-Christmas weekend (26 December to 28 December 2015) from 12 pm to 9 pm at PoMo, level 1 Atrium. An inflatable photo and video booth – the first-of-its-kind in Singapore – will be parked in the mall for individuals to tell their stories and bring home memories of their best “gift faces”.
Each video confession will entitle an individual to a mystery gift exclusively from Shopee and one lucky participant will go home with a brand new iPhone 6s. Now, maybe that, is a gift worth getting.
