LOOK IKEA throws a big bash to attract customers to its new store

IKEA Malaysia unveiled its second store located at Jalan Cochrane, Cheras.To attract consumers to the store spanning across 42,000 square-metres of shopping space, the opening was themed as ‘Malaysia’s Biggest Housewarming Party’. Prior to the opening, IKEA drummed up massive anticipation for the store by launching an ad campaign where it made an entire song with lyrics using its unique furniture names.https://youtu.be/zrMrlb-zHWwThroughout the opening weekend, IKEA Cheras lined-up various in-store activities for families including a special appearance by a dancing Panda, face painting, clown performance balloon giveaways and many more. These activities resulted in 5,000 people anxiously waiting for the store to open its doors.According to IKEA, fans were seen queueing as early as the midnight before, and the store continued to be swarmed by visitors throughout the day. IKEA also became the top trending topic in Malaysia on Twitter in the afternoon and remained on the list throughout the day. Mike King, retail director, IKEA Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand said the store is set to showcase a wide array “of well-designed, functional and quality Swedish home furnishing solutions at incredibly low prices” and more locals can enjoy the “IKEA store experience”.“Staying true to our vision of creating a better everyday life for the many people, it is important that we create a positive impact in the communities where we operate in. Together with the surrounding developments, we believe the new IKEA store has the potential to transform Cheras as a lively shopping destination whilst turning it into Kuala Lumpur’s newest retail landmark,” added King.The opening was driven by the marketing team at IKEA Malaysia together with its agency partners including Text100 Malaysia for public relations, BBH Asia Pacific for creative and digital, Vizeum for media planning and Brightbox Asia for event management.
