iClick acquires China mobile advertising platform OptAim

iClick Interactive Asia has acquired a 100% stake in OptAim Technology (智云众) to strengthen its cross-platform marketing capabilities in China.

OptAim, headquartered in Beijing, owns and operates one of the leading mobile advertising platforms in China. The acquisition was settled by way of shares and cash.

Focused on performance-based advertising and programmatic marketing, OptAim holds partnerships with the likes of Tencent, Taobao, Sohu and Toutiao. It boats access to more than 550 million mobile users across the country.

iClick currently has seven offices across Asia serving more than 2,000 domestic advertisers and international brands.

iClick CEO and co-founder Sammy Hsieh said the acquisition complements iClick’s existing cross-platform marketing capabilities.

“OptAim is a perfect fit for iClick’s digital marketing portfolio in China. The benefits from the acquisition and subsequent synergies are significant to both iClick and the programmatic marketing industry in China.

In January 2015, OptAim received approximately US$10 million in a Series A financing from Bertelsmann Asia Investments. Currently its mobile programmatic platform has over 500 advertisers.

OptAim was founded in 2012 by Jan Tang, a former director of advertising platforms and products at Tencent Holdings. Tang was one of the core members who developed and built Tencent AdExchange, an ad inventory platform that supports real-time bidding.
