Here’s what Singaporeans have been busy searching in 2014

As the year comes to an end, search engines Google and Yahoo are sharing what local readers been actively garnering knowledge on.

According to both Google and Yahoo, the disappearance of MH370 came in at number one on the list of things most searched. The flight which went missing en-route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing in March puzzled aviation experts and consumed readers not just in the region, but across the globe.

Meanwhile, the new iPhone 6 and the alarming Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) levels in Singapore were also on the list of top searches in 2014.

Meanwhile, as one of the most gadget-savvy nations in the world, it comes as no surprise that the highly anticipated iPhone 6 was one of the most searched tech gears this year.

This past year also hosted several major sporting events. The FIFA World Cup, topped the list of sports searches.

Locally in Singapore, the buzz generated by the World Cup was inflated by the inadvertent humour created by the National Council on Problem Gambling’s anti-gambling ads where a troubled boy’s savings were used by his father to bet on Germany (which ironically, was the ultimate winners of the Cup in real life).
