Google celebrates strength and courage with Merdeka doodle

Google Malaysia has created a doodle to celebrate Merdeka Day, featuring illustrations of the four races looking up at the sky in awe as fireworks explode over them. The doodle also features the Malayan tiger, Malaysia's national animal which represents strength and courage, and is also the subject of many Malay folklore.According to Google, this year's national day will be "particularly exciting" because its citizens have elected a new government for the first time since 1957. The company has also created doodles for Merdeka Day in 2015 and 2016, as well as this year's 14th Malaysian General Election (GE14).The GE14 doodle featured alphabets queueing up to vote, with majority of the letters holding ballot papers and a Malaysian flag, while the middle “G” was replaced with a ballot box with a Malaysian flag on it.Its spokesperson told A+M then that the company created the doodle to celebrate this important day with fellow Malaysians, and there was no business objectives behind it. Meanwhile, the company has also created doodles for the Philippines elections in 2016 and South Korean elections last year.
