Google has unveiled a revamped version of Google Maps, bringing an in-store  experience to mobile devices.Across Hong Kong and Macau, smartphone users can now view details of shops, ATMs, restrooms, car parks even elevators inside various buildings using the "Indoor Maps" function on the app.Indoor floor plans are integrated into Google Maps and automatically enabled when users zoom in.More than 70 malls and hotels in both regions were covered.Existing local partner companies include IFC, MTR, Pacific Place, Hysan Development, Hongkong Land, Olympian City, Times Square, Harbour City, Langham Place, Heritage 1881, The Peak Tower and Hong Kong International Airport. As of today, mobile users are able to view additional levels using the level switcher function, whereas desktop users are only able to view the main level of buildings. The revamp project is also supported by the Hong Kong Tourism Board to help capture street views of temples, historic buildings and markets.Daisy Lui, deputy executive director of Hong Kong Tourism Board, described Google as a key tourism partner."Both our website and mobile app are using Google Maps to provide tourists with information on tourist attractions in Hong Kong. We believe the revamped app will enrich travel experiences as well as business opportunities."Apart from the "Indoor Maps" function, three other main features include: "Business Photos", enabling businesses to display pictures of their stores; "Ground Truth", providing places in greater details; and "Map Maker", where users can add buildings and roads.
