Gartner names new area vice president

Global technology research and advisory firm Gartner has appointed Lester Owencroft to the position of Area Vice President in Hong Kong.

In this role, Owencroft will lead Gartner’s strategic business development in Hong Kong and work with the firm’s network of C-level executives and IT leaders to inform their business decisions with world-class technology-related research.

A veteran of the technology sector with more than 20 years of multinational experience, particularly in IT and business communications solutions, Owencroft specializes in transformational management and has built numerous high-performance sales teams from the ground up.

He has also spearheaded business growth in more than 10 countries across Asia, North America, Europe, Middle East, South Africa and Oceania.

Owencroft was previously commercial sales director for Avaya in the United States. Prior to this, he was based in Hong Kong and Singapore for almost 10 years, first as Asia-Pacific Sales Director with Nice Systems followed by a stint as Sales Director for annuity services, managed services and SaaS at Avaya.

“As the regional hub of numerous multinational corporations across a diverse range of sectors including banking and financial services, Hong Kong presents a uniquely challenging landscape for business leaders,” said Tom Kinslow, managing vice president, Greater China.

“We see in Lester a strong leader who will not only further Gartner’s business development in Hong Kong, but also become a trusted partner for our clients, ensuring they have the necessary insight to make the right decisions every day.”

Owencroft’s appointment comes as 60% of corporations in Hong Kong are expected to increase their IT spending in 2015, according to a recent survey of Asia-Pacific CIOs conducted by Gartner. According to the respondents, top priorities in technology include digitalization and digital marketing, enterprise resource planning, mobile, business intelligence and analytics, and security.
