The aftermath of Typhoon Glenda didn’t stop thousands of Filipinos to pour into the Mall of Asia Arena last Friday for the highly-anticipated Yahoo Celebrity Awards, now in its fourth year.Yahoo Philippines said that around 8,000 people attended the star-studded event, a feat considering that Manila was recovering from a category 4 super typhoon that hit the capitol just three days earlier. The internet giant went to great lengths to promote the Yahoo Celebrity Awards in the country, following a rebrand from the former Yahoo OMG Awards unveiled in June, spanning tri media, outdoor and online platforms.[gallery link="file" ids="59396,59397,59398,59399,59400,59401,59402,59403,59404,59405,59406,59407,59408,59409,59410,59411,59412,59413"]In a bid to capture the young, tech-savvy market, Yahoo launched the first Asian Yahoo On the Road in the Philippines, a campus concert tour onboard a pimped out a purple two decker bus that doubles as an experience kiosk for Yahoo’s latest redesigned mobile apps. The campaign attracted over 20,000 students after visiting the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Lyceum of the Philippines University and Far Eastern University. The bad weather could have nicked the Yahoo Celebrity Award’s attendance somehow, but the brand sure is happy with its remarkable turnout online. From 5,000 online votes from the first Yahoo OMG awards, its latest reiteration netted a whopping 17.5 million – the highest so far on its record books.Brand sponsors also got a chance to conduct themed activations that jived with the awards. Jag Jeans had a short fashion show while the iconic band Wolfgang performed live on stage while basketball stars Jeric Teng and Jeron Teng had the Celeb Selfie Challenge promoting PLDT Ultera.Aside from the two brands, the Yahoo Celebrity Awards was also supported by McDonald’s, KakaoTalk, Emperador Light, Jack & Jill Piattos and Pond’s.
