Former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi joins Amazon's board

Former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi (pictured) has joined Amazon's board of directors, as director of the company. She was also appointed to the audit committee of the board, according to Amazon's investor relations site.Nooyi stepped down as CEO of PepsiCo last year in August, after 12 years with the brand. She remained as chairman until early this year, as Ramon Laguarta, former president of PepsiCo, transitioned into the role of CEO.During her time as CEO, PepsiCo delivered strong results under Nooyi’s leadership, an earlier statement said. This includes a total shareholder return of 162% from 31 December 2006 to 31 December 2017, and a net revenue growth of US$35 billion in 2006 to US$63.5 billion in 2017, a compound annual growth rate of 5.5%.Under her leadership, PepsiCo also grew its portfolio of Good for You and Better for You options from about 38% of revenue in 2006 to roughly 50% in 2017. Prior to her stint with PepsiCo, Nooyi also worked at global brands such as Motorola, Johnson & Johnson, The Boston Consulting Group and others.Amazon also appointed Rosalind Brewer, chief operating officer of Starbucks to its board. Last month, Amazon recorded a 31% increase in its full year net sales to US$232.9 billion, compared with US$177.9 billion in 2017. In its financial report, the multinational eCommerce company revealed that its operating income increased to US$12.4 billion, compared with operating income of US$4.1 billion in 2017. In addition, its net income increased to US$10.1 billion, or US$20.14 per diluted share, compared with net income of US$3.0 billion, or US$6.15 per diluted share, in 2017.
