Facebook's Asia expansion hits Hong Kong

Facebook will officially launch its Hong Kong operation from early next year, with former Google executive Jayne Leung signing on as director of its North Asia division.Facebook's Asia expansion now includes offices in Singapore, India and from the first quarter of 2011, Hong Kong.Leung joins Facebook from The Rubicon Project and was a former head of media sales for Google Asia Pacific. The company will announce more staff in the coming weeks.Leung reports to Stephen Dolan who heads up Facebook sales across Asia Pacific.Dolan said the company will build up a local presence as the market demands.Currently Facebook has more than 3.6 million users in Hong Kong, a small number compared to Southeast Asia markets like the Philippines and Indonesia, which alone has more than 31.4 million users.Currently Starbucks Hong Kong is Facebooks most popular brand with 88,525 fans, followed by Sony Ericsson Hong Kong with 35,593.
