Mina Lefevre will be joining Facebook as the head of development at Facebook. She will be in charge of creating original video content for the social media giant.
She was previously the executive vice president, development and programming, head of scripted at MTV Networks. She has worked on shows such as Faking It, Awkward, Finding Carter, Scream, Teen Wolf, Nicole Byer, Mary + Jane, Sweet/Vicious and Shannara
In a Facebook post on Wednesday night Lefevre announced:
This news comes at a time when recently Zuckerberg claimed that the social media platform will not become a media company and will remain a technology platform. Zuckerberg had mentioned that the company has no ambitions to become a content provider. This is in response to a question asked during a town hall Q&A in Rome, where a member of the public asked if there were intentions for Facebook to become a news editor.
But many publications have linked the hire to Zuckerberg saying that the company plans to experiment and focus on shorter form content to help build a sustainable ad revenue sharing business model. It also aims to pay professional creators to bring that content to Facebook.
Further, an article on TechCrunch reported that Facebook will both pay video makers and through ad revenue sharing to plans get their content into its news feed and video tab.
