DPA champions awareness for disabled

The Disabled People's Association (DPA) will be launching a campaign to gain public awareness on the daily obstacles faced by the disabled. The campaign launching on 16 September will run for a period of six weeks on print, TVC, OOH and online.Also as part of the campaign, a video featuring paralympic athlete Yip Pin Xiu, is also shot as she goes on her daily routine. The clip will be aired in cinemas.Reported on the Straits Times, the campaign is costing DPA SG$358,000 on ad space. However much of the campaign has been sponsored. Goodfellas created the concept for the ad for free. Meanwhile, Starcom handled all media buys and SMRT was the official OOH partner. Production house Shooting Gallery Asia was behind producing the videos and posters. In a press statement, the DPA said, "For the most part, Singapore is a country that has the infrastructure to enable persons with disabilities to travel to public places ... However, some people are not aware that their actions can create obstacles for individuals with disabilities as they try to get around."Hence, the DPA hopes to raise people's awareness of the various barriers persons with disabilities have to face every single day.The DPA was established in 1986 with an objective to empower persons with disabilities with the necessary skills and knowledge for independent living.
