Discovery and Mediacorp have partnered to bring sports content from Eurosport and Setanta Sports on Toggle, the latter’s OTT service. The move will also see the pushing of a Sports Action Pass which allows viewers to get a subscription package to catch European championships and major rugby leagues. The move brings sports content such as Tour de France and IAAF Diamond League athletics, with upcoming events such as 53rd FIS World Cup winter sports, the FIA World Touring Car Cup, and the European Athletics Cross Country Championships. Eurosport’s portfolio of live content includes sports such as cycling, tennis, judo, wrestling, winter sports, football, and motorsports.Meanwhile, Setanta Sports serves content such as rugby league and union events from the Northern and Southern hemispheres. Major rugby properties include SANZAR’s matches such as The Rugby Championship and Super Rugby, Super League, and Aviva Premiership. Upcoming coverage includes the 2018 Rugby Championship. In a statement, Anil Nihalani, head, digital products and technology, Mediacorp said the tie-up with Eurosport and Setanta Sports looks to bring premium sports to viewers at an attractive price. It also looks to increase ease of use via instant activation online, which negates the need for set-top box installation. The service is also available on a wide variety of devices including mobile and Smart TVs.“Through Mediacorp’s Toggle platform, we are able to bring all the action to our passionate sports fans on the go, providing flexibility to customers in how they access their favourite sporting events and teams,” Anna Pak Burdin, general manager – Southeast Asia, Discovery Networks Asia Pacific, added. The move comes shortly after Discovery moved its portfolio of TV content to Singtel, following a fall out with StarHub in May over carriage fees.Moving forward, the partnership with Singtel will see the return of brands such as HGTV, Asian Food Channel (AFC), and Food Network to Singapore on Singtel TV and Singtel TV GO, on top of TLC and Travel Channel. Singtel also struck a deal to carry the whole suite of Discovery channels in Singapore, including the flagship Discovery Channel (CH202) and Animal Planet (CH208)."Singtel TV is constantly working to deliver premium content to our viewers, many of whom are avid fans of educational and lifestyle content. We are pleased to work with Discovery to continue expanding Singtel TV’s content line-up of quality shows," Goh Seow Eng, managing director, home, consumer Singapore at Singtel, said at the time.
