iButterfly, a virtual butterfly app introduced by Malaysia Airports in 2011, is now available with upgraded features and offers.
Developed by Denstu, the iButterfly is a mobile app that challenges consumers to catch virtual butterflies seen through their iPhone, iPad or 3 camera viewfinder.
The captured butterfly can be redeemed for free beverages, discounts and exclusive gifts from participating retailers and F&B operators at all its five international airports (Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Langkawi, KLIA, LCCT).
“Brands can take advantage of this digital platform to come up with exciting promotional activities whereby the development turnaround is shorter,”said Faizah Khairuddin (pictured), senior general manager commercial services of Malaysia Airports.
Among participating brands are Bijoux Terner, Bonia, Burger King, Delifrance Café & Bakery, Dunkin’ Donuts, Fukuya, L’Occitane, Royal Selangor, Satay Club Grill & Bar, Secret Recipe, Starbucks Coffee, The Body Shop, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Malaysian Wok and Zon Emporium.
To mark the release of its butterflies, Malaysia Airports hosted an “iButterfly Catch Up Day” at KLIA, where travellers, business partners and members of the public were invited to catch the different species of virtual butterflies.
The event was also publicised on Facebook to engage a wider audience where the first 100 guests are awarded RM50 cash vouchers.
The iButterfly initiative is part of the Indulge Till You Fly campaign which supports the strategy to create an attractive and appealing lifestyle environment for travellers.
Besides Malaysia, the iButterfly technology is also available in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines.
