Banyan Tree splits sales and marketing function, Spooner exits

Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts is in the midst of a cost cutting exercise which has seen the exit of David Spooner, vice-president of sales and marketing, CEO Abid Butt and Andrew Langston, vice-president of operations.A spokesperson from Banyan Tree has confirmed the news to Marketing and also said that the position of sales and marketing has been replaced with just VP of sales. She however declined to name the new sales lead but clarified that a separate marketing function will remain and will report directly to newly appointed managing director Des Pugson, who was also the former VP of China ops.Globally the resort will cut approximately 12% of its over 1,400 workforce.In a statement given to The Straits Times, Ho Kwon Ping, CEO of Banyan Tree Holdings said this is more than just a cost cutting move and is done in an attempt to become leaner and more efficient in a bid to save millions.He also told ST: "Anyone who doesn't restructure now is going to end up a dinosaur."
