Astro partners TM for better content

Astro has sealed an agreement with TM NET (TM), a wholly owned subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia, for the carriage of Astro SuperSport HD and Astro SuperSport 2 HD (collectively, ASSP Channels) on TM’s Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) service HyppTV, effective 1st August 2013.

The ASSP Channels will broadcast selected matches from the Barclays Premier League (BPL) and other sports content.

The partnership is in line with Astro’s aspiration of delivering an enhanced integrated digital lifestyle to Malaysians nationwide, by expanding the reach of HyppTV to a greater number of homes and customers with the availability of the service nationwide.

Through this collaboration, Astro and TM aim to provide Malaysians with greater choice and access to both local and international content, while sharing a common goal in supporting the advancement of Malaysian sports, especially Malaysian football.

Dato’ Rohana Rozhan (second from left), chief executive officer of Astro, said, “Astro intends to provide even more comprehensive local sports coverage to raise visibility and in turn, attract higher levels of sponsorships to benefit the sports industry.”

Astro’s investment in local sports content has grown significantly and currently accounts for approximately 20% of the total sports content costs.

The additional sports content acquired from this collaboration is expected provide a boost to Astro’s existing sports package, which carries 13 sports channels and offers great value for money to our subscribers.

The partnership brings HyppTV’s total number of channels to 110, of which 29 channels are in High Definition (HD). With the two new sports channels, HyppTV now offers HyppTV Sports Pack bundling its 13 Sports channels.
