Astro and Twitter tie-up for World Cup highlights

Astro has partnered with Twitter to offer exclusive “near-live” football match clips and tournament via the @stadiumastro Twitter handle, in the lead up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.

Fans will receive goal alerts from the match of the day, replays of the best goal of the day from all angles, as well as a roundup of the day’s action that captures key moments. Consumers will also be able to view a collection of video clips of the star player of each match.

Twitter declined to reveal the monetary value of the partnership.

“We are excited to team up with Astro to bring exclusive World Cup content such as expert analysis and video highlights to Twitter alongside the best real-time conversations and Tweets. Malaysians are passionate about football, and fans should head straight to Astro and Twitter to see and talk about everything that’s happening during the football tournament,” Maurizio Barbieri, Twitter’s SEA head of sports partnerships, said.

CK Lee, Astro’s chief of sports said, “Live sports is best experienced together. Astro hopes to spark lively and engaging conversations among Malaysians on their favourite World Cup moments with our ‘near-live’ clips.”

This new collaboration with Astro is the latest in a string of partnerships between the broadcaster and Twitter, which already includes the English Premier League and Formula One, just to name a few.

Earlier this year, Astro appointed Merdeka LHS to manage creative duties for the upcoming World Cup, following a pitch held in January this year. The agency is responsible for managing an integrated creative campaign, which includes conceptualising the overall campaign idea, strategy and creative communications across all major platforms.
