Airbnb settles global media pitch

Days after settling its creative account, Airbnb has now handed its global media buying and planning duties to Starcom. In Asia, Starcom will be handling markets such as Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia and China.

According to an article on M&M global, Jonathan Mildenhall, Airbnb chief marketing officer, said: “We’re thrilled to partner with Starcom because we share the same philosophy: we believe human experiences matter. Starcom has unmatched global media expertise, they will help us reach our community in a very local and impactful way in Europe, Asia, Latin America and the US.”

The account will be led from the states with the agency working with international offices to develop locally relevant strategies.

Meanwhile, earlier this week TBWA took home the global creative mandate for Airbnb. Earlier this year TBWA Singapore won Airbnb’s creative business across Asia, Philip Brett TBWAGroup’s president South & South-East Asia also told Marketing.

Airbnb has been investing heavily in marketing and branding following a US$450 million funding injection earlier this year, which valued the business at US$10 billion. It also launched a new brand logo which got the internet talking.

Meanwhile, in Asia, it has been hiring aggressively and appointed Matthias Schuecking as regional marketing lead in July this year.
