AirAsia names Spencer Lee CEO of BIG Loyalty

AirAsia has appointed Spencer Lee (pictured) as CEO of BIG Loyalty, replacing acting CEO Sereen Teoh. AirAsia Group owns a majority stake in BIG Loyalty which operates the AirAsia BIG Loyalty programme.Lee joined the airline in 2006 and helmed various roles in marketing and the development of ancillary income, culminating in his previous role as commercial director of AirAsia Malaysia. In that role, Lee spearheaded a number of projects across the group, including the AirAsia BIG Loyalty programme. He was most recently chief commercial and strategy officer of AirAsia's digital ventures arm, Redbeat Ventures. Lee also helmed the role of CEO of travel360.com, the digital expansion of the airline’s inflight magazine travel360.Lee said, "I am honoured to be given the opportunity to lead BIG Loyalty. I would like to thank the management of AirAsia for their support and confidence in me, and I look forward to continue working closely with them to provide new, more innovative products and services with BIG Loyalty."BIG Loyalty director, Tony Fernandes, said Lee has been with the company for more than a decade and brings with him wealth of experience and a proven leadership track record."More importantly, he knows the business inside out. We have big plans to make AirAsia BIG more than just an airline loyalty programme and transform it into a comprehensive lifestyle platform, and we trust Lee will lead the team to realise our vision," Fernandes added.Meanwhile, BIG Loyalty has also partnered with RHB Banking Group to unveil a comprehensive loyalty programme that enables RHB customers to accumulate AirAsia BIG Points across selected retail banking products.The partnership aims to reward Malaysians by making travel and lifestyle aspirations attainable through the loyalty programme, which will enable RHB customers to tap into the BIG Loyalty ecosystem to enjoy BIG Points as the currency for everyday travel and lifestyle products, from flights, hotel, shopping, dining and many other services. The programme is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2019.RHB credit and debit card customers will be given a one-week priority access from 26 November to 2 December to redeem flights at up to 90% off using BIG Points from as low as 500.Dato’ Khairussaleh Ramli, RHB's group MD said this partnership is an opportunity for the bank to reward its four million customers for their loyal support of RHB Banking Group by delivering greater value in their customer journey with RHB offering them greater lifestyle benefit.“For now, this programme would be applicable to selected transactions done locally but over time, we will extend these to regional and international transactions as well,” he added.Fernandes said the partnership strengthens its lifestyle and financial pillars while fortifying its BIG Points ecosystem. "By transforming daily banking processes into a way to earn BIG Points, we are bringing even more value to our BIG Members as we help make their travel and lifestyle dreams come true, and we also look forward to expanding our Malaysian membership base with this strategic alliance,” he added.In June this year, BIG Loyalty also teamed up exclusively with Fave for BIG Deals by Fave, as part of its commitment to giving members more freedom to enjoy “bigger experiences” at a better value. Under this partnership, over 3.6 million BIG members in Malaysia can now earn BIG Points, while enjoying savings of up to 95% off on travel and lifestyle deals by Fave. Meanwhile, BIG Loyalty also unveiled a points exchange platform, BIG Xchange, to enable BIG members to convert between BIG Points and partner points seamlessly and instantly.
