AirAsia has partnered the Malaysian Organising Committee (MASOC) of KL2017 as a gold sponsor. KL2017 refers to the joint referral of the 29th 2017 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), and the 9th 2017 ASEAN Para Games.Through the partnership, the AirAsia will be known as KL2017's official airline partner. This is not the first time AirAsia has dabbled in the sports arena, previously collaborating with KBS to promote MotoGP sport among the youths in Malaysia. In addition, the airline was also one of the few corporate entities which came forward last year to reward free flights to Southeast Asian Olympic medallists from the 2016 Olympic Games and the 2016 Paralympic Games.During an event announcing the partnership, secretary general of the ministry of youth and sports (KBS), Lokman Hakim bin Ali, signed on behalf of MASOC, while AirAsia was represented by its CEO, Aireen Omar.“It is very evident that AirAsia is determined and committed to giving back to the community via sports and I really appreciate it. Sports indeed serves as a platform to unite people and with all they’ve been doing with sports, AirAsia is very much aware of this,” said Y.B. Brig. Gen. Khairy Jamaluddin, minister of youth and sports and chairman of the MASOC.KL2017 will take place on 19 to 31 August 2017 for the 29th SEA Games and 17 to 23 September 2017 for the 9th ASEAN Para Games.
