Called to action after super typhoon Haiyan swept through the Philippines, AirAsia announced a relief campaign called “To Philippines with Love” to benefit communities of the devastation. The multi-tiered campaign will have cash donations available on flights and at airports throughout the AirAsia’s network; the public will also be able to make donations online via its designated microsite. AirAsia will also provide free cargo space and flights for NGOs, aid and humanitarian agencies offering relief efforts as well as 250,000 free seats for Filipinos en route home.Tony Fernandes, group CEO of AirAsia said that he hopes these free seats will facilitate a smoother journey for Filipinos abroad to return home to their loved ones in light of the wreck which typhoon Haiyan has created.“AirAsia stands by all of you, and we are sure that the Filipino spirit and resilience will pull you through this.”The group will also match the total public collection, to be managed by the airline’s foundation – AirAsia Foundation – for long-term reconstruction efforts to rebuild communities affected by the typhoon. The fund raising campaign will run from now until 31 December via hashtag #toPHwithLove with all funds going towards the Philippine Red Cross for relief efforts.
