Agencies' worst digital horror stories revealed

Digital has been the industry's buzzword for the longest time. But onground, it seems the market is having its troubles actually getting those digital ambitions off the ground. While sometimes these are from legitimate barriers, ("management doesn't see the point in digital!" etc.) sometimes it's just a plain lack of digital know-how.We got agencies to speak up on the craziest digital requests they've received below. And to be fair -  it looks like some of these crazy requests are coming from within agencies themselves (oops!).Read on:One digital agency lead: "(There was) the client who felt that the 'prestige' and 'business opportunities' we would get for building their website would be much more valuable than money, and hence didn't want to insult us by offering to pay.""The client who didn't like how Internet Explorer displayed his website and wanted us to change it. Not the website - Internet Explorer.""The client who doesn't like how Facebook has changed 'Fans' to 'Likes', and wants us to change it back.""The client who felt we should have predicted the Financial Crisis, and since we didn't, wanted us to provide lots of free media to make up for it."From a social media agency executive: "Can we run those skyscraper ads on Facebook?" - When the client's browser got infected by malware and started displaying non-standard Facebook ads."Since social media is free we should be able to do it for FREE right ?" Client to social media agency."What is this FaceTube?" (From a high ranking media company in Singapore - social media executive.)"What is it that people do on The Facebook?"Do you provide viral video services ?""Can we engage with Trolls like how we work with Bloggers?"Client: Please mock up my terms and conditions page.Agency: In JPG format?Client: Yes. Oh, and after I approve, please send my third party developer the Photoshop file of it.Us: But that will be a very, very big file. Can't we just approve the copy and visual separately?Client: No I want it in one mock-up - like what you guys did for the homepage.<hours later>Client: Oi, why does your mock up take so long to download??From client: "(We want) hi-res screenshots." (According to the agency, this is a popular request.)Client: Could you do the [product] 360 rotation as seen in this reference site?Agency: Yea, if you have all round shots of it.Client: No, we don't have it. Can you do that?Agency: We don't do 3D.Client: We don't need 3D, we just want to have a 360 rotation of it.From a senior marcoms practitioner to PR agency - "We cannot have any negative comments and feedback on our social media channels. How can you ensure that? Even if we have negative comments, can you quickly delete and ban the users who made them?"Also by a client to PR agency: "I would like to have 10,000 Facebook ‘likes' in two weeks. How can you help us realise this, even if it means buying ‘likes'?"Also, the following five from a blog post by social shop Goodstuph's Pat Law:"So if you develop the eDM, will it be in full color? If it takes too much time, Spot Color will do." - Client to art director about the development of an email direct mailer."I don't care. I want a colored fax." - Client to executive creative director, insisting the agency also create technological breakthroughs."What button do you press to stop your keyboard from eating up your words when you type?" - Boss to account manager."Can you send me the JPEGS in Illustrator format?" - Client to account director."Can you add the words "ROLL-OVER HERE" so that consumers would know that our buttons will change in color upon roll-over?" - Client to account director, trying to be too helpful.*Article image: screenshot from Warner Brothers' The Shining film
