Aberdeen Asset Management bites into Star Media Group

Aberdeen Asset Management has is acquiring a 5% stake in Star Media Group. This is some 36.9 million shares, read an article on The Star.  According to the article, Aberdeen also holds assets to British American Tobacco and Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia.Star Media Group has several entities under its portfolio including newspaper The Star, digital version the star online and radio station 988FM. Most recently it also added on demand service Dimsum to its portfolio.Star Media Group said Dimsum’s content are sourced from all over the region, offering subscriptional video-on-demand (SVOD) on its Dimsum app and Dimsum.my. Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, Star Media Group’s group managing director and chief executive officer earlier told A+M that its subscribers will pay RM15 a month. For now Dimsum’s plan is to “focus on developing the Malaysian market” with target audience primarily living in Klang Valley.
