StarHub CMO Howie Lau heads to IMDA

Howie Lau (pictured), CMO of StarHub will be heading to IMDA to take up the role of chief industry development officer and group head of IDG. Lau who has been with StarHub since 2015, will take on the role at IMDA from September onwards.As CMO of StarHub, Lau was responsible for charting StarHub’s brand and marketing strategies across all marketing functions and ensuring overall marketing synergy and brand consistency. In addition, he oversaw StarHub’s Mobility, Pay TV and Broadband businesses as well as content management. Prior to his time at StarHub, Lau was the vice president, corporate development of Lenovo’s worldwide finance organisation, where he oversaw Lenovo’s end-to-end post merger management and related merger and acquisition matters.In total, he has more than 25 years of experience across various global companies including Lenovo and IBM, in corporate development, formulating brand and marketing strategies, and driving global strategic partnerships. He is the current president of the Singapore Computer Society’s Executive Council and sits on the board for NUS Institute of Systems Science and Singapore Science Center. In his current capacity, he also serves on the IMDA TechSkills Accelerator Governing Council, which is responsible for increasing the employability of tech professionals in Singapore.Tan Kiat How, chief executive of IMDA said, "We are pleased to welcome Lau into the IMDA family. Building on the strong foundation set by Angie, together with IDG, Howie will drive the growth of the ICM sector and nurture a new generation of digital champions as part of Singapore’s transformation into a vibrant digital economy."Lau is said to be replacing Angeline Poh, who has taken up the role of  chief corporate development officer at Mediacorp. This is in a bid to “strengthen” the company’s leadership capability and to “drive” its ongoing transformation. Poh’s appointment will be effective 1 September 2018 onwards, and she will be reporting to CEO Tham Loke Kheng.Most recently Mediacorp also hired Oliver Chong as head, consumer marketing, reporting to CMO Debra Soon. Marketing first broke the news in June about his move to Mediacorp. The company has now revealed that Chong will assist Soon in creating a coherent marketing strategy that unifies the branding of Mediacorp and wide range of properties and assets to consumers.
