PETRONAS hires former Shell marketer Ben Mahmud

Shell Malaysia's former head of retail marketing, Ben Mahmud (pictured), has joined PETRONAS' downstream marketing unit as head of strategy and business development. PETRONAS has confirmed the appointment to A+M, adding that he will report to PETRONAS, VP, marketing, Dato’ Sri Syed Zainal Abidin Bin Syed Mohamed Tahir. Syed Zainal is also the CEO and MD of PETRONAS Dagangan.In the newly created role, he will oversee the downstream marketing operation units for domestic and global markets.At Shell, he helmed the role of convenience retailing and lubricants team leader for Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Brunei for more than 11 years, according to his LinkedIn. During that period he was responsible for delivering sales and gross margin for lubricants in Shell’s retail network in the respective countries. Chung Ai Kee, global lubricants retail marketing manager, was appointed to replace him.Mahmud also worked at Shell Australia as global retail ONFR formats manager for more than two years, and Shell New Zealand as category manager, retail lubricants for New Zealand and Australia for over a year.Meanwhile, PETRONAS Group witnessed a 2% increase in revenue during the first quarter of 2018 ended 31 March, from RM56,519 million during the same period in 2017 to RM57,922 million this year. It garnered RM37.2 billion in upstream revenue, compared to RM34.6 billion in the corresponding quarter last year. Meanwhile, downstream revenue saw a decrease of RM0.6 billion to RM27.5 billion compared to the same period last year.
