*SCAPE's hanging woman Halloween display gets dragged down

*SCAPE has removed its Halloween display of a long-haired mannequin in a blood-soaked gown hanging from a tree outside the building, following criticism of it being distasteful. A picture of the female doll appeared on social media five days ago on Instagram, with the caption "Someone got hung on this Friday morning". Some netizens commented that the display was "awfully scary", "not cool" and "severe". Someone got hung on this Friday morning.A post shared by Bryan (@bryankam) on Sep 21, 2017 at 6:50pm PDTSoon after, a Facebook page known as Singaporeans Defending Marriage and Family condemned the Halloween display in a post, stating it was "extremely disturbing, done in very bad taste and traumatising to children".The post added that the mannequin would "surely trivialise" the topic of suicide among young individuals, as well as encourage them to attempt suicide to avoid stress and trouble amid the examination period. The Facebook page also called for the mannequin to be removed and urged members of the public to write to National Youth Council's CEO David Chua and Minister Chan Chun Sing.Echoing Singaporeans Defending Marriage and Family's stance was Twitter user @Loylzeus, who said companies are trivialising the issue of suicide while others are working hard to prevent it.Meanwhile, Samaritans of Singapore recently launched a campaign to get members of the public to stop trivialising suicide through the use of these phrases which dramatise a situation, but never actually come to fruition. This is part of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.A quick check by Marketing found that there was also another smaller mannequin dressed in a bloodied gown, sitting on a swing that was hanging on a tree outside *SCAPE.Apparently, both mannequins were intended to promote the seventh installment of *SCAPE's Museum of Horrors and a microsite was also created specially for the event. They are based on the fictional story of how the life of a vain and money-minded young female was turned upside down when she killed and abandoned her leprosy-stricken daughter, whose vengeful spirit came back to possess her.https://youtu.be/P70UTG6zeaM[gallery link="file" ids="196589,196588,196587"]Marketing has reached out to *SCAPE and the National Youth Council for comment.*SCAPE was not the only organisation that grabbed public attention with its brazen marketing. Last month, Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) also came under fire for its eerie Horror Nights OOH ad found at bus stop shelters at Bugis Village, Clarke Quay and Hotel Rendezvous. The execution featured a marble wall commemorating lives which were “innocently taken in the Southpoint Mall collapse” - a fictional tragedy. On the wall were misspelled names in alphabetical order followed by flowers and pictures of the “deceased” placed at the foot of the wall. In a conversation with Marketing, a spokesperson from RWS said that the company was aware of the “variety of reactions on social media”. The objective of the campaign was also to creative drive awareness in an eye-catching, original and unconventional way.
