Rules set for Malaysian retailers on using cheap sales and discount as strategy

Malaysia’s Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) has laid down four different time periods in which retailers can lure in consumers using "cheap sales and discount" as a marketing strategy.According to The Rakyat Post, these dates are 1 March to 31 March for the early year sale; 15 June to 31 August for the Malaysia mega sale carnival; 1 November to 31 December for the Malaysia year end sale and a time frame  of their own choosing. In addition, traders also have to abide to certain conditions for the sales periods. For example, at least 50% of all goods displayed for sale must be offered at a cheap sale price on the location of the business. The minimum discount price percentage must at least be 10% of its previously offered price, and a notice for the cheap sale must also be displayed at a visually clear area.A+M has reached out to KPDNKK for comment. The article added that particulars of goods and prices need to also be clearly displayed and easily noticed by customers and each cheap sale notice application needs to be done online on KPDNKK’s website.
