PPS marries Alipay for Taobao shoppers

Hong Kong electronic payment system PPS and China’s popular third-party payment solution Alipay are joining forces to speed up the check out time for shoppers on Taobao Marketplace and Tmall.com, where Alipay is the designated payment processor. From now on, PPS users can pay via PPS when they purchase items on the online retail channels instead of putting in money into the Alipay account or using selected credit cards. When a payment is settled through PPS, the transaction amount is immediately converted from RMB to HK dollars based on a system-generated daily exchange rate.“Alipay is committed to providing users with online payment tools that align with their payment habits,” said Minjun Liang, director of international business at Alipay. “PPS has a strong user base in Hong Kong, and we are pleased to collaborate with them.”“We believe that the partnership will provide Hong Kong consumers with an enhanced customer experience and facilitate payment in a simple, convenient and secure way.”Raymond So, general manager of EPS – one of PPS’s parent companies – said the partnership comes at a time when his firm celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.“More than half of our 1.5 million PPS users have registered for internet service,” he said. “We really look forward to working with Alipay because our collaboration is key for the ‘PPS Shop & Buy Service,’ which allows Taobao Marketplace and Tmall.com users to settle payment via PPS on Alipay in real time.”
