ONE Championship pushes into the content space with documentary series

ONE Championship is making an aggressive push into content, launching its new documentary series “Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series” which features martial arts legend Rich “Ace” Franklin as he travels from gym to gym all across Asia in search of the next martial arts superstar.

The talks for the series has been on-going for approximately a year and it will be disseminated on social media and online. A spokesperson added that majority of ONE’s broadcast partners, across 128 countries, will use this content on their channels.

Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series is a new documentary feature which will run in 30-minute episodes. Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series aims at discovering new talent, providing promising young athletes with the platform to unleash their martial arts greatness.

Franklin will travel to various Asian nations to visit local gyms beginning in Bangkok, Manila, Seoul, Tokyo and Beijing to discover new and upcoming martial arts talent. Deserving prospects will be rewarded with a six-figure contract with ONE Championship. The promotion’s elite video production team will be following Franklin’s journey across the region, chronicling the action to produce a series of compelling documentary videos.

The screening and tryouts process will consist of pad sessions, grappling demonstrations, conditioning exams, and an interview process, among others. Once selected, athletes will compete in trial exhibition bouts with a chance at earning a six-figure contract with ONE Championship based on performance. The first episode of Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2018.

One of the ways to do this is by developing local homegrown martial arts superheroes. We are excited to travel across Asia, visiting the most iconic cities, to discover the next big superstar.”

Earlier in August, ONE Championship hired Jack Lim as chief commercial officer to oversee growth opportunities for the promotion of ONE Championship, as it looked to expand on its existing partnerships while creating new global ones.

He will also be responsible for uniting and leading all of ONE Championship’s existing revenue streams, overseeing sponsorships, media rights, merchandising, ticketing, and brand licensing, as well as developing additional paths of revenue for the company. Lim will report to Sityodtong.

Prior to assuming the new role, Lim served as CCO of Mediacorp for three years. He was also the VP of media sales for Sony Pictures Asia for six years, communications director, ASEAN at IBM for three years, as well as director, international sales at CNBC Asia Pacific for six years. During this time, he honed his skills and capabilities for building brands and growing businesses across the media and tech industries. Lim also worked at Dow Jones as an advertising manager for two years.
