Employees like them big

Canada - It seems that employees at large organisations are much happier at their jobs, compared to workers at smaller companies.

According to a recent employee satisfaction survey by The Beacon Group, an HR advisement and services firm, employees working for multinational corporations have higher work satisfaction compared to their counterparts in small enterprises. The findings showed that large companies have scored equal or higher in categories such as management support and quality, future career development, co-workers, compensation and work environment.

Other advantages employees felt large corporations can offer much better than small companies include "Teamwork & Collaboration" and "Value, Recognition & Appreciation". However, Shannon Couch, VP of Product Planning & Development at The Beacon Group, said there is a prevailing assumption that smaller companies can generate more employee satisfaction as they have smaller communities.

This allows employees to have more direct involvement with the business, she added. "Employees at smaller companies may feel they have greater control over their role in the organisation and workplace environment."

Hence, large companies should not be complacent about their ability to shape their workplace environment, Couch said, or it may affect their scores in future employee surveys.
