Oct tonnage throughput down by almost 10%

Hong Kong - Hong Kong air cargo tonnage throughput fell nearly 10% in October, according to the latest figures from Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals.

A total of 222,166 tonnes were handled in the month of October, representing a year-on-year decrease of 9.8%.

Hactl said total tonnage from January to October 2008 was 2,162,062 tonnes, an increase of 0.9% against the same period in 2007.

Both import and export volume registered a decline in October.

Import volume showed a decline of 13.6% year-on-year, with a total of 51,336 tonnes being handled in the month. Export volume for October was 127,332 tonnes, down 10.7% year-on-year.

Aggregate import volume and export volume for the first ten months of 2008 recorded 553,228 tonnes and 1,187,320 tonnes respectively, representing a dip of 2% and 1% year-on-year for the respective sectors.

Transshipment volume for October also saw a decline by 2% year-on-year to 43,498 tonnes, while total transshipment volume from January to October was 421,514 tonnes, representing an 11.2% increase year-on-year.
