Lighthouse reveals its Malaysia mag branding

Malaysia - Open letter: Tony Kelly, editorial director Lighthouse Independent Media Sdn Bhd.

It gives me great pleasure today to introduce the brand new branding for our Malaysia magazine which launches next month, Advertising + Marketing Malaysia.

Since we arrived in Malaysia and started doing business here a few months ago, to launch the third edition of our magazine for the marketing, agency and media industry, there has been one persistent question.

"What's going on with Marketing magazine?"

Many of the people I have spoken to here in Malaysia have already been exposed to what we do in other markets namely Marketing Singapore, a nearly seven year-old publication, and Marketing Hong Kong - and wanted to know what was going on when a publication of the same name and look appeared in Malaysia.

Today it's time to end those conversations as we launch our brand new unique masthead and name for the Malaysia edition of our market leading titles, and hopefully put to rest the questions of ownership, proprietorship and ethics.

The team in our KL office is now able to rally behind a new fresh masthead and brand, and frankly we can get on with business and tell our own story without anyone else telling it for us.

After what happened to us last time the process of registering a new name and getting the logos designed was top secret, in fact even the editorial teams on our other two titles which bear the distinctive Marketing name, look and logo have not been given access to the new name and logo for the Malaysia market while it was in development.

We have already witnessed what lengths some people will go to to prevent us operating on open market principles of fairness, integrity and respect for people's intellectual property, so we have played this one very close to our chests until all the i's were dotted and t's crossed and now we are ready to go.

Hopefully this puts to rest the question, that many of you have very kindly asked with some concern, of how we intended to launch here in the face of this hurdle and today means we can get on with it and stop talking about it, so you can judge us on what we produce.

It's clear, from the warm welcome we have had that the market is ready for competition, and competition can only make the market better.
