Google tries to have it all

Hong Kong - Google's move to enter the browser market indicates its growing desire to monopolise its online users despite and crack rival Microsoft's 72% share of the browser market.

The online search giant Google yesterday unleashed its web browser Google Chrome in 100 countries with 40 different languages to accommodate all of its Google applications.

Currently, Firefox and Safari together own 27% share of the browser market, according to HitsLink.

Sundar Pichai, VP of product management for Google, said Chrome is the window to the web that it allows users to interact with the websites and applications they care about.

To challenge Microsoft, Chrome built a multi-process platform that separates users' each browser tab. That means when one tab crashes, others will remain stable and responsive, so that users can continue working without having to restart Google Chrome.

"Google Chrome was built upon other open source projects that are making significant contribution to browser technology and have helped to spur competition and innovation," Linus Upson, director of engineering for Google, said.
