Singapore - In response to SingTel's mio TV Season Pass which launched less than a month ago, StarHub is hitting back with its own suite of true demand services, aptly named "DemandTV".
Subcribers of StarHub's cable services will not be strangers to its new name or demand services as it has been providing "near-video demand" for about three years. Unlike its predecessor, which provided only 10 to 13 titles at predetermined time slots, the new service has been split to two main categories - "Video-On-Demand" and "On Demand Channels".
"Video-On-Demand" caters to a one-off purchase of any content. Both single programmes and series are available to the subscriber for unlimited frequency but a limited validity. It can be purchased through the interactive TV with remote control access. Content includes Barclay's Premier League as well as TVB and CBS series such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Numb3rs.
On the other hand, "On Demand Channel", which currently has five different channels, will have to be purchased from the StarHub's customer service helpline on a monthly basis. To access these channels, customers have to be current subscribers of the pre-programmed Disney Channel, VV Drama and TVBJ. The other two channels are Ruyi Hokkien Channel On Demand and BPL On Demand.
The new services announced by StarHub however are only available for customers with the Hub Station. It will provide rental services of the hardware on a monthly basis. There is a limited trial period prior to the official October launch.
