Hong Kong - McDonald's has rolled out a marketing campaign as the official fast food restaurant of the Olympic Games, sending a crew of 11 employees to work at the McDonald's restaurant in the Olympic village.
The campaign created by DDB Hong Kong demonstrates the fast food restaurant's commitment to the Olympic spirit showcasing the 11 crew members that made up the international crew from 36 countries.
The TV spot features the life of Steve Chung, one of the crew members, who goes about his usual routine from doing his laundry, hanging out with friends and riding his bike that cuts to him working at McDonald's Olympic village saying he is just an ordinary person but it's not who he is that counts but what he does.
Apart from the 30 second TVC, the campaign is supported by print ads, in-store POP and an online site that includes a microsite, which includes blogs of the Olympic crew sharing their experiences at the Olympic Games with their fellow colleagues and friends including those who log on the site.
Randy Lai, VP marketing & communications and regional marketing director, said the Hong Kong crew was handpicked from more than 10,000 employees that work for McDonald's in the city.
"They were specially chosen for their diligence and commitment. Obviously they are very excited to be part of the Olympic Games - serving the top athletes from around the world."
Jeffry Gamble, group CD for DDB Hong Kong added: "This has been a really great campaign because it really highlights the opportunities that McDonald's provides to its staff and the local communities. IT was great to work with the Olympic crew, have them involved in the campaign and share in their excitement."
