Bizarre HR: Job applicants get creative

Global – More job applicants are tapping into their creativity, hoping to impress potential employees with their job resumes.

In an online poll by CareerBuilder.com, 49% of 3,000 hiring managers say they have uncovered a lie on a resume. This figure is down 7% from 2006.

Of all the dishonest applicants encountered by the hiring managers surveyed, 80% exaggerated their job responsibilities, 18% lied about their skills, 10% faked their academic qualifications, and 5% inflated their job titles.

While these discrepancies are not too unusual, hiring managers exposed some bizarre attempts by job applicants to increase their employment chances. Some of the most unusual lies include using someone else’s photo on a resume, claiming Mensa membership, listing a degree from a school that does not exist, and pretending to be part of the Kennedy clan.
